who cares about fast food anyway???

So, I had another dr. appointment today. We are about at the 19 week mark... almost half way there. Everything looked good and the heartbeat was very strong at almost 160 bpm!

The bummer of the appointment came when I stepped on the scale - always the dreaded moment. Last night, I even thought about what I should wear today in hopes of avoiding heavy clothes and shoes! Now granted I have only gained 11 pounds so far (which is right on track) but the sad part is when my doctor told me that I need to be more careful from this point on. He said that things I could get away with in the first trimester will not be so kind to me now. I'm translating that to mean a diet of fast food is not in my future. I haven't really been eating too badly but there have been moments of weakness. I'm not sure I have ever baked so much either

I think I could eat the following fast food items on a fairly regular (possibly even daily) but I will refrain:

1. Egg McMuffin (McDonald's)
2. Cheeseburger (McDonald's)
3. Grilled Stufft Burrito and Nachos (Taco Bell)
4. Beef 'N Cheddar and Curly Fries (Arby's)
5. Oreo Blizzard (Dairy Queen)

For those of you feeling disgusted right now, I apologize.

So, I resign for the next 20 weeks to keep in mind that all the weight I gain will at some point need to come off. I will do this for myself and my baby. But in answer to the question in the title of this blog... I care about fast food and I will miss it!

The First Trimester...a recap

Unfortunately, it took me far too long to get this blog in action. So, I have to make up for lost time and quickly update you on the first three months of pregnancy. Right now I am just entering my 18th week... flying by already.

To summarize the first trimester, I can think of a few words... tiredness, snacks, excitement, anxiety and vomiting! You guessed it, I didn't have the easiest first few months. About week 7 the all-day sickness started. Whoever coined the phrase "morning sickness" should be taken out back and .... I would start to feel sick in the morning and would have to immediately sit down when I got out of the shower. Then things got worse, I was throwing up almost after every meal. That's when Zofran (nausea medication) and I became good friends.

This point of the story is when Dan became future father-of-the-year. Every day, he would get up first make me toast and bring me my medicine, toast and water. I ate and then stayed in bed for about 20 minutes. Then I was able to get up and get the day started. By about late afternoon, I would start feeling bad again but I just took it easy and it would pass.

Unfortunately, at about 9 or 10 weeks we had a little scare. My placenta was not attaching properly and this caused a tear. For about a month, I had to get injections of progesterone and was forced to rest. No working out for starters. So far, that has been the hardest month on me. I know it is important to do whatever it takes to keep the baby safe and healthy but it was hard to just sit around for a month. So, a month ago I was very relieved to get word from my doctor that the tear had healed and I could resume normal activity. And, no more injections!

Other than that I've just been watching my belly grow. Sometimes I wear my regular jeans (unbuttoned of course) and other times the maternity ones are just much more comfortable. It is strange to see my stomach beginning to look like it has a ball inside of it - causing it to stick out. Haven't felt any movement yet but very very excited for that day!

Thanks to some great friends who have loaned me clothes... you're the best and saving our budget!

Our 20-week ultrasound is scheduled for December 10th. But sorry for those of you hoping to buy us either blue or pink... we are going to be surprised!

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get things current.

Explanation of Blog Title

I know Heidi's Haus is a sort of unusual name but there is meaning behind it...

When I was about two years old, my wonderful grandfather (Gramps) built a play house for me. And I mean a real playhouse. It just looked like a miniature version of a house complete with tiled roof, door bell and window panes. The icing on the cake was the hand-painted sign my grandmother (Nonee) had him put outside the front door. As you might have guessed, it reads "Heidi's Haus".

Haus is the German word for house. As my maiden name may have given away, my dad's family is very German.

This blog is a refleciton of me, my life, my family, my home and my soon-to-be first-born baby! And it is dedicated to Nonee and Gramps. Without them, the name of the blog would never have been possible.
